Message from the Superintendent

Espanol | Tieng Viet

It is that time of year again, and Alief’s Family and Community Engagement Department (FACE) cordially invites all families and community members to participate in our annual FREE Family U Conference, “Together We Are A Masterpiece,” on Saturday, March 2nd, from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Alief Center for Talent Development (CTD). This event offers engaging sessions for all grade levels, student performances, complimentary food, childcare for Pre-K to 8th grade, exciting prizes,  and a special speaker, Ernesto Mejia. Join us for a day of learning, community engagement, and another opportunity to target our strategic pillar, “Alief Family.” In April, we will host the “Taste of Alief” and our Alief parade, and we look forward to celebrating the diversity of our community.

Here is our AMP News episode 6 for the 2023-2024 school year. In this episode, we have the Adopt a Kid event, classroom spotlight with the CTE Electrical program, our story on the TESLA Cyber Truck, pet of the week "Ray,” and an old musical act recorded at our TCC Taylor Studio back in 2016.

It’s time to nominate the March 2024 Superintendent’s MVP Award winners. One secondary student, two professionals, and two support staff are recognized each month for their outstanding service and dedication to the climate and culture of Alief ISD. Show your support today and submit your nomination here. Submissions will be accepted through Saturday, March 2nd

The district is transitioning to a new version of our newsletter, and we want to bring you along with us! Please sign up HERE to stay updated with all things Alief ISD!

Celebrations

Congratulations to our Texas All-State students who performed at the Henry B. González Convention Center on February 10th as part of the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention in San Antonio. High school students selected to perform in the All-State concerts have competed through auditions to qualify at the state level. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. 1,875 students were selected through a process that began with over 70,000 students from around the state.

  • Ryan Nguyen, a member of the Kerr HS Choir Chorale, performed with the Texas All-State Mixed Choir.

  • Chelsy Odelugo, a member of the Kerr HS Choir Chorale, performed with the Texas All-State Treble Choir.

  • Daniel Rivas-Velasco, Sophomore Trumpeter from Elsik HS Mighty Ram Band, performed with the Texas All-Bands.

  • Kaniri Walker, a member of the Alief Taylor High School/Varsity Choir, performed with the Texas All-State Tenor/Bass Choir.

Mr. Errol Larkins, Killough MS STEM Specialist, was honored by the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston as the 2024 Jr. Division STEM Specialist of the Year for his outstanding contributions in the STEM field.  From designing lessons with teachers to connecting students with STEM role models, camps, and corporations, Mr. Larkins does it all.  He has "STEM Excellence" in his DNA!  For this, we salute Errol as he continues to ignite a passion for STEM in all!
